This unique Georgian organ was played regularly by Holst and Vaughan Williams when he visited his friend. Miss Joan Doggett, a Thaxted resident says:

"I remember the first time I heard that organ played. Gustav was playing it. He and Vaughan Williams would take choir practice together sometimes, with one playing and one conducting; then they would change round.
We thought there was nothing unusual in that."
